Day 9: Building my Website #2

I decided to change my approach to Module 4 (Build Your Website) slightly today.
I had been stuck on creating my Homepage for quite a while now, and had even discarded and rewrote content on it already, trying to carefully craft a brand image that would work.
This was a bottleneck, because for a perfectionist like me, designing and curating a whole website needs to be well thought out and not something I can come up with instantly. I’d already spent a fair amount of time just picking out photos to use!
But today I figured that a more holistic view along with some planning on paper before getting down to actually drafting the content may be useful. I would write down points first and then continue building my website according to those.
So far I had been working alongside each video lesson in the course, but this time I watched ahead because in order to properly assess the bigger picture, I needed to know all of the content that would be required.
I made a list titled ‘Content Needed’, which included each of the required sections together with short descriptions and ideas. I also wrote a paragraph (almost like a pep talk) on my personal brand and what I wanted it to portray.
I made progress — I finished my About Me and Contact pages, and got a good feel for what I wanted to do on the Homepage (in addition to what I already had) and Blog.
The brand image seems to be coming together, and I’m glad I gave it a bit of time to develop at the back of my head (note to self: rewatch this TED talk).
It should be a couple of hours more work to finish the module, and then I’m aiming to also get my email list and marketing funnel set up tomorrow, since they’re mostly only admin jobs by the look of it.
